The McCormick Legacy
The McCormick story begins in 1831, when Cyrus Hall McCormick of Virginia demonstrated a horse-drawn mechanical reaper that would permanently transform world agriculture. His invention mechanised the harvest, allowing a single operator to do the work of dozens of labourers, and in 1847 he moved his operation to Chicago to meet surging demand. Such was his impact that he became known as “the father of modern agriculture.”
In 1902, the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company merged with the Deering Harvester Company to form the International Harvester Company (IHC), producing legendary tractor lines including the Farmall and McCormick-Deering. The Doncaster plant — opened in 1949 — became a centre of innovation, producing tractors for International Harvester, Case IH and eventually the modern McCormick brand.
Today’s McCormick Tractors International Ltd. was established in 2000 when Argo Tractors S.p.A. — the Italian family-owned agricultural machinery group — acquired the McCormick brand and production assets. Manufacturing is now concentrated at the group’s world-class facility in Fabbrico, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, where McCormick and Landini tractors are built to the highest standards. With a range spanning 49 to 310 HP and full Stage V emissions compliance across the line-up, McCormick continues to push the boundaries of agricultural technology.
